Photos from Brunswick in GermanyObelisk at the Löwenwall - this Obelisk was privy at the 13.08.1823. The Löwenwall is a oval green with trees around it. In the middle of the Löwenwalls is a quadratic area, on these area is a Obelisk surrounded by 4 Lions. The trees are horse chestnut. In the green are 2 round fountains. The about 3 hektare big Löwenwall was build between 1812 and 1820. It was a memorial for the Brunswick dukes Friedrich Wilhelm and Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand. They have died on the liberation wars agains Napaleon the I..the Brunswick Castle was residance of the Brunswick dukes from 1753 till 8.November 1918. The first building burned down 1830. In 1841 a new building was constructed, this one was torn off because of damages through air attack. In 2007 was build a shopping center on the area with the name "Schloss-Arkaden" (Schloß = castle Arcarden = ambulatories), the west side of the building is made from reconstructions of the facade of the construction from Carl Theodor Ottmer.
